Azam Uganda Premier League
Bright Stars FC 0-1 Maroons FC
History has it that Bright Stars struggles against bottom placed teams ever since they joined the top flight football in 2013.
Statistics indicate that a win against Entebbe FC in the 2014/15 season, is the only time Bright Stars FC has managed maximum points against a team languishing at the bottom in the Uganda Premier League.
That time Bright Stars FC won 2-1 at Lugogo.
With this kind of record, the players were very much aware of the impact of this match in Mwererwe as three points is what their stand in Coach Paul Kiwanuka demanded from his troops.
There a debut appearance for Henry Kiwanuka in attack while Farouk Katongole slotted in for injured defender Acram Kakembo.
Both players never disappointed but Felix Okot of Maroons has different ideas on the day as he netted a spectacular long range shot in the 70th minute to hand Bright Stars FC their first home loss that brought an end to the four match unbeaten run this season.
Goalkeeper Hamza Muwonge was caught off the line but before the goal, he had made classic saves to keep the game goalless.
Skipper Nelson Senkatuka has the post save Maroons and had he scored from his acrobatic kick in the first half, it would have been a different story.
Maroons won the match 1-0. Bright Stars FC will now switch their attention to the net league fixture against champions KCCA FC at Lugogo on 17th October, 2017.
