FUFA Uganda Cup Round of 64
Vura FC 0-1 Bright Stars FC
Bright Stars FC through to round of 32. Draw to be communicated by FUFA.
Bright Stars FC are through to the round of 34 following a hard fought 1-0 away win over Vura FC at the Chelechele grounds in Moyo on Sunday.
On a weekend that saw most of the Uganda Premier League teams swing into action for the Uganda Cup played on a knock out basis, Bright Stars started their journey with an away fixture against Big League side Vura FC.
Bright Stars were looking to keep their records perfect as they have never been ejected from the competition at the round of 64.
The furthest the Stars have gone is the Quarterfinals two seasons ago when they fell at the hands of KCCAA FC in Mwererwe.
However last season, Bright Stars FC were edged on penalties at the round of 32 by Bazaar FC Holdings in Mwererwe.
With their minds set on making it better past the round of 32 this season, Bright Stars FC used all their experience in the competition to strike midway the second half thanks to a direct free-kick by captain of the day defender Sula Sebbunza.
Assistant coach Paul Kiwanuka travelled with 18 players but missed the services of striker and skipper Nelson Senkatuka and Seif Batte who had just returned from National team duty.
Head coach Fred Kajoba also never travelled with the team.
The winner of the Uganda Cup represents the country in the CAF Confederation Cup.
The team is expected back to Kampala later on Monday.
