FT: Wakiso Giants 1:1 Bright Stars FC at Wakisha Stadium in Wakiso
Bright Stars FC new signing Onek Alfred from Ndejje University FC was on target in the 1:1 draw pre-season friendly match against Wakiso Giants at Wakisha Stadium in Wakiso on Friday evening.
Onek’s first goal for the Stars was an equaliser in the 73rd minute after Captain Nelson Senkatuka picked him from the right with a low cross before tapping the ball into the net.
The home team had earlier taken the lead in the 60th minute through an own goal deflected by midfielder Sula Sebbunza off Ziraba Ashraf’s shot.
Head coach Kajoba Fred gave opportunity to young lad Kawagga Godwin who was promoted from the Bright Stars FC Junior team. He started the game upfront alongside Senkatuka. Kawagga is a product of the famous Royal Giant High School Mityana that has a partnership with Bright Stars FC.
Katende Juma, another new player from Kakiri Town Council also started the game in central midfield and was guided by experienced Sebbunza. He had the best of his game and dictated the flow of the match in the middle of the park.
Further more, new goalkeeper from Police FC Tamale Simon also put on a superb performance during the game as he made three classic saves that would have resulted into goals.
Tamale saved Emmanuel Obina’s shot in the 70th minute that would have doubled his team’s lead.
Senkatuka and Mahad Kiseka both got golden chances to increase on the Stars’ goals tally but blew up the opportunities.
Kiseka’s chance came a minute to the end of match when he received a cross from another arrival at the club Aggrey Kirya from Onduparaka FC but his half volley was inches off the target.
‘The friendly match has helped us identify the abilities of our new players. We have noticed the areas we should improve on before the season begins’ said Bright Stars FC Assistant head coach Kiwanuka Paul.
Some of the new players who have joined Bright Stars FC are; Katende Juma (Kakiri TC), Tamale Simon (Police FC), Onek Alfred (Ndejje University FC), Aggrey Kirya and Kakooza Rajab from Onduparaka FC.
Bright Stars FC will continue with its pre-season programme in another match against URA FC next week.
