Bright Stars FC defenders Enoch Walusimbi and Dan Birikwalira guided Buganda province to a sensational 1-0 victory over West Nile in the FUFA Drum 1st leg final at Bishops Ground in Mukono on Sunday evening.

Birikwalira serving as captain in the Buganda team had the best of his game. He keenly kept URA FC winger Vitalis Tabu silent and was a threat to West Nile with overlaps on the left side combining with Brian Majwega. Birikwalira’s  deliveries into the West Nile goal area caused trouble for the opponents’ defenders Rashid Toha and Filbert Obenchan.

Birikwlaira was involved in the move that resulted into the goal.  He crossed the ball into the penatly area before Sekajugo picked a rebound to score for Buganda.

On the other hand, Walusimbi’s display was so vibrant as single handedly contained Brian Umony for the period he was on the pitch.  Umony was later substituted with only one shot at goal.

Walusimbi and Birikwalira are key players in the Buganda Province team and have started in all the previous games of the FUFA Drum.

They have conceded only 2 goals in the last 5 knockout games against Kampala (quarterfinal) Bukedi (Semifinal) and West Nile (final).

As a captain of Buganda Province Birikwalira was privileged to lead his players in the maiden final and assured that he will lift the trophy in Arua.

‘I am glad to be Buganda’s captain. Our win at home against West Nile means a lot to my career. It is an opportunity for me to lift a trophy as a captain and we shall win it in Arua’ said Birikwalira.

Also former Bright Stars FC skipper Nicolas Sebwato was part of the Buganda Province team and commanded the defense that had Birikwalira and Walusimbi.
