SC Villa 1-1 Bright Stars FC

Mandela National Stadium

Striker Alfred Onek was on target to secure a point for Bright Stars FC  against SC Villa in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League match played at the Mandela National Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Onek who started upfront received a low pass from the left laid by Dan Birikwalira in the 44th minute. The flexible forward made no mistake to tap the ball into the net.

Only a minute later, Onek was close to hitting the second with an opportunity from skipper Nelson Senkatuka’s cross from the left however the effort was off target.

Earlier on, Senkatuka missed a golden opportunity in the 23rd minute failing to beat goalkeeper Said Keni after receiving a through pass from new signing Jamil Kalisa.

The match ended 1-1 at the break. Bashir Mutanda scored Villa’s goal 42nd minute.

In the second half, head coach FRed Kajoba made a double substitution just 9 minutes into the last 45 minutes. He called off defender Andrew Kaggwa for offensive midfielder Henry Kiwanuka and Jamil Kalisa for Aggrey Kirya.

The pair’s fresh legs  made a positive impact in the opponent’s final third  resulting into another excellent move into the goal area combining passes between Kiwanuka and Senkatuka in the 75th minute but teh skipper’s effort was saved by goalkeeper Saidi Keni.

In the 76th minute, Left back Birikwalira was injured and gave way to striker Fred Segujja.

Five minutes to the final whistle, Senkatuka was again close to register his name of the scoresheet when he took a shot inside the area after a run with the ball from the left but still SC Villa goalkeeper was the hero to save the home side from losing the game.

‘We are just unlucky. We received 4 clear chances that would have collected us all the three points. That’s football and sometimes the best team doesn’t walk away with maximum points. We are going to work on the few mistakes and we are now focusing on our next game at Mwererwe’ said Bright Stars FC Head coach Fred Kajoba.

Bright Stars FC lies in the 9th position on the StarTimes Uganda Premier League Log with 23 points from 17 matches. The Stars will play against KCCA FC in the next fixture on Saturday 9th February at the Champions Stadium Mwererwe
