The start of the 2018/19 League season for Bright Stars FC was GREAT. The end was just FABULOUS. It all started and ended at the Champions Stadium in Mwererwe. Eleven (11) goals were scored in 180 minutes on the opening and closing dates of the just concluded league season in which Bright Stars was involved in.
Wait a minute, nine of the 11 goals belonged to Bright stars FC BUT Nelson Senkatuka netted 7 of them including 5 against Paidha Black Angels. It was the first time a Bright Stars FC player was coring a hat-trick in the top flight league since joining the Uganda Premier League in 2013.
It was also Bright Stars’ biggest league win having beaten Paidha 6-1 last weekend on Saturday 4th May 2019.
Senkatuka scores 31 League goals in two seasons for Bright Stars FC
Skipper Nelson Senkatuka had his first hat-trick at the club and it took him only 23 minutes to break the record. However, he never stopped hitting the target until he made it 5-0 to continue breaking records in the match and for Bright Stars Fc. He is the club’s all-time leading scorer in the Uganda Premier League with 31 goals.
Senkatuka was on the mark in the 4th, 8th, 23rd, 57th and 65th minutes. James Angu added the sixth goal in the 82nd minute.
How it happened in Mwererwe
Inside the opening four minutes Senkatuka received a through pass from inform Augustine Kacancu beating the defender with pace before slotting home a left foot shot.
The captain doubled the lead only 4 minutes later after picking a rebound from Brian Kayanja’s shot at goal.
Finishing up the hat-trick
It was a great moment for him in the 23rd minute, like a hungry lion in the wild, tirelessly hunted for the third and this time round getting the first hat-trick at the club with a curled shot into the right corner of the target.
It was a joyful moment for him and the fans cheered as the home side dominated and enjoyed the flow of the game.
On return from the break, the body language from the club’s top scorer seemed not to give up on hunting for more goals.
He flicked Sam Sekito’s diagonal cross from the left to add his fourth before taking a powerful shot in the 65th minute that beat Paidha goalkeeper for the fifth goal.
Shortly, a double substitution was made as Kayanja and Alfred Onek paved way for James Angu and Methodius Jungu. Henry Kiwanuka later came in for Kacancu.
The two players regained Bright Stars momentum upfront that gave no time to the visitors’ defence to take a breath.
Angu scores his first league goal for Bright Stars FC
22 minutes on the pitch, Angu pulled off the sixth when he was granted opportunity to turn and shoot at goal in the 82nd minute. He sealed the first ever biggest victory for the Stars in the league.
Record League points ever for the Stars
The Stars broke their previous record of highest points ever collected by the Kawempe based side in the league. Bright Stars FC joined the top flight in 2013 and six seasons down the road, they can’t complain but would wish to hit higher targets in the near future.
Forty one (41) points were collected this season from 30 matches. The highest points collected in the past was 38 points (2017/18 season).
