The Uganda U-23 National team goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya signed for Bright Stars football club from fellow Azam Uganda Premier League side Soana Football Club before the start of the 2014/2015 season.
Kigonya began his career with SC Villa Jogoo youthful side, before joining Soana while still featuring in the FUFA Big League.
The 5’4ft stopper who helped his former school Bishop Nankyama SS win the famous COPA Coca Cola School cup in 2009 without conceding a goal had an impressive league season debut, helping his team to finish 9th on the 16 team log with a series of fine displays including a goal from a direct free kick against BULFC at Lugogo.
Kigonya made history when he became the first Bright Stars FC keeper to feature for a national team side.
Kigonya made his full debut for Uganda Cranes against Malawi in Blantyre when Uganda Cranes coach fielded an Under 23 squad for the international friendly. He has made the bench for the U-23 National team in the games against Mozambique in Maputo and at Nakivubo during the Africa U-23 All Africa Games qualifiers.
