Bright Stars FC in maiden Final of the Stanbic Uganda Cup
Bright Stars was founded in 1997 and have played a couple of Cup finals, won trophies in the FUFA organised and sanctioned Leagues and tournaments. However the Stars are in the dreamland having qualified for the Stanbic Uganda cup Final on Thursday with a penalty shootout win over record winners Express FC at Mutessa II Stadium Wankulukuku.
Bright Stars has played top flight football for six seasons now as they joined the Uganda Premier League in the 2013/14 season.
The Uganda cup at the National Level will come big for the Kawempe based side but they have won it before though at regional level in Kawempe when still playing in the Kampala Regional League in 2011/12 season. Now it is a new generation led by Fred Kajoba (Head coach) and Nelson Senkatuka (Captain) to keep writing more stories for Bright Stars FC
Bright Stars FC saw off Express FC 3-2 on penalties after the return leg had ended 1-1 for a 2-2 aggregate score.
The final will be played on 25th May 2019 at the Masaka Recreation Ground between Proline FC and Bright Stars FC.
Both clubs had never gone this far in the tournament. Bright Stars FC best performance in the competition was a quarterfinal show twice in 2014.
Express scored an early goal through John Revita in the 3rd minute with a teasing free kick that went past goalkeeper Hamzah Muwonge.
James Angu who scored his first league goal for Bright Stars FC last weekend against Paidha FC, was on the mark with a wonderful headed goal for the equalizer 10 minutes to full time.
In the shootout, Farouk Katongole, Rajab Kakooza and Nelson Ssenkatuka scored their kicks while Angu and Walusimbi missed their chances.
Michael Birungi, Davis Mayanja and Sadiq Ssekyembe all missed for the Red Eagles while Disan Galiwango and Revita converted their kicks successfully.
